Job summary

The Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport (MCERT) in Wellington seeks two experienced Data Brokers to lead data supply agreements and onboarding for long-term data investment plans. You will hold a senior data stewardship role, building strong relationships with stakeholders and ensuring high-quality data supply.

These fixed-term roles sit in the Data and Science Content team within the Strategy, Stewardship & Performance (SSP) group, contributing to policy and investment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher or equivalent experience in a relevant field (information science, social science, economics, policy, etc).
• Experience building and maintaining strong stakeholder/customer relationships.
• Commercial experience selling or buying data or research essential.
• Experience influencing and facilitating change.
• Experience acting as a bridge between technical practitioners and non-technical decision makers.
• A good understanding of a broad range of data including planning, infrastructure, environmental, geospatial data, land use, emergency management and risk assessment.
• Understanding of data procurement processes, data sharing agreements and intellectual property rules.
• A good understanding of data ethics and privacy.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; adapt writing style for audiences.
• Knowledge/familiarity or learning of Te Ao Māori to contribute meaningfully for Māori communities.
• Broad knowledge of machinery of government; central/local government is an advantage.

About This Role

We are seeking two experienced Data Brokers to lead the negotiation and maintenance of data supply agreements and data onboarding as a part of our Planning System Transformation and National Adaptation Framework programmes. You will hold a key data stewardship role and engage at a senior level to develop mutually beneficial relationships to ensure a sustainable supply of high-quality data. These high impact roles require strong leadership, strategic thinking, relationship building, and technical expertise.

These fixed-term roles sit in the Data and Science Content team which is hosted in the Strategy, Stewardship & Performance (SSP) Business Group at the Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport. This Group uses data and evidence to inform policy, help advise ministers, set the Ministry’s strategy to deliver on core priorities, and inform decision-making. These roles will have a primary purpose of working to the long-term data investment plan.

Skills And Experience

• Knowledge/familiarity or a commitment to learning/understanding Te Ao Māori, in order to understand and contribute meaningful work and outcomes for Māori communities.


• A broad knowledge of the machinery of government, working in the central / local government is an advantage.

Salary range

Salary range for this role is $110,501 to $134,128 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
