Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Cyber Security Analyst to join our Security Operations Team. You will monitor security events, investigate incidents, and support continual improvement of detection capabilities across networks and cloud.
With 3+ years in security operations, you bring strong incident response skills and a proactive mindset. You’ll collaborate with IT and engineering and participate in on-call rotations.
As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will be a member of Westpac’s dedicated Security Operations Team responsible for detecting and responding to all security threats and incidents.
Cyber Security Analysts perform real-time log analysis providing network and data security for Westpac New Zealand. Through an in-depth understanding of exploits and vulnerabilities, Cyber Security Analysts evaluate the type and severity of security events and resolve issues following the appropriate corrective action, or escalation procedures.

Monitor security alerts and events to detect, triage, and respond to potential threats.
Investigate and analyse incidents, working through containment, eradication, and recovery activities.
Support the day-to-day operation of security monitoring and detection capabilities to ensure visibility and coverage.
Assist with tuning detection rules and use cases to improve alert quality and reduce noise.
Work with engineering and IT teams to support incident response activities and strengthen security controls.
Contribute to threat hunting, continuous improvement initiatives, and automation of SOC processes.
Follow standard processes for incidents, changes, and documentation.
Participate in an on‑call support roster with support from the team.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
3+ years’ experience in security operations, penetration testing security engineering, or adjacent domains.
Good foundational and technical knowledge in security, web technologies, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
A solid investigatory mindset, a keen eye for anomalies, and motivated to dive deeper, ask questions, and discover root causes.
A proven experience and track record in security incident response and security operations
Desirable experience in security platforms and tools like SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR etc
Wide-ranging technical skills and understanding of web technologies, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
