Job summary

Ministry of Education in Auckland, New Zealand, is seeking a Curriculum Advisor to provide regional guidance to early learning services, schools and kura. You will help develop high-quality teaching programmes, support assessment practices, and promote equitable achievement for all students across tamariki communities.

The role requires strong relationship skills, curriculum design expertise and a deep understanding of Te Reo and tikanga.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
• Strong curriculum design expertise with literacy and/or maths teaching (early learning)
• Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching, leadership, and curriculum and assessment theory and practice
• Experience with te ao Māori, Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori is essential for Curriculum Advisers.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and support to teachers/kaiako and leadership teams in developing high-quality teaching and learning programmes.
• Support by region to early learning services to implement government curriculum priorities.
• Identify and deliver curriculum support to meet diverse tamariki needs and equitable outcomes.
• Build collaborative networks within communities and share good practices.
• Travel across the region will be required with a full current driver’s licence.

Curriculum Advisors are based in the regions and provide advice and support to early learning, schools and kura.

As a Curriculum Advisor, you will provide advice and support to teachers/kaiako and leadership teams in the development of high-quality teaching and learning programmes.

You will be part of a regional team working closely with early learning services to:

• Provide support on the development of teaching and learning programmes, including assessment practices, to support the implementation of government curriculum priorities to improve learning outcomes for all students.
• Identify and deliver high-quality curriculum support to meet the diverse educational needs of all tamariki, with a specific focus on equitable achievement of ākonga learning outcomes.
• Support early learning services to work alongside whānau, hapū and iwi to reflect the aspirations of their tamariki in teaching and learning programmes
• Build collaborative networks within communities and actively share good practices.

Salary range:$100,296 - $115,132 per annum + KiwiSaver.The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies:

• Proven experience in building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
• Strong, proven curriculum design expertise and a deep working knowledge and practical experience in literacy and communication or maths teaching (early learning), is essential.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching and learning, leadership, and curriculum and assessment theory and practice, with an ability to support professional change in education settings
• Experience with te ao Māori and understanding of Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori - critical for Curriculum Advisers.
• Experiential knowledge and competencies in supporting curriculum design that has evidenced improved outcomes for diverse communities.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of education contexts at a practical level.
• Strong diplomacy, interpersonal and facilitation skills, with an ability to adapt to different interaction styles and contexts.
• Skills in leading and motivating others, and the ability to challenge, facilitate, supervise and coach kaiako/teachers to build capability, and where necessary, implement change.
• A full current driver’s licence as travel across the region will be required.

The Education Services Group provides well-designed, integrated education services that support the impactful and effective operation of education settings to support student achievement and participation. The services help to remove barriers to participation and learning and provide regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.

The Group has three key priorities for Education Services:

• Practice & Guidance: Managing practice and guidance to improve national coordination and consistency, whilst enabling regional autonomy for education service delivery.
• Integration & Delivery: Providing education support directly to education settings via integrated regional and national services. This includes intervening when necessary to ensure a high standard of operation to support student outcomes and owning key stakeholder relationships to support schooling improvement and stronger outcomes for learners.

Monitoring & Improvement: Monitoring and advising on improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of services for achievement and progression, and attendance and participation. This includes monitoring education provider performance against regulations and intervening as required

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level, including deep relationships with iwi and hapū. We service a geographic area that covers central and east Auckland, including the islands in the Hauraki Gulf (Waiheke and Aotea).We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled ākonga and/or ākonga with learning support needs, and ākonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.
