Job summary

Department of Corrections NZ is seeking Corrections Officers for Manawatu Prison. You will work to ensure security and the wellbeing of inmates, induct new arrivals, and supervise daily routines.

The role offers a comprehensive paid training programme and a clear career progression path within Ara Poutama Aotearoa. You must have NZ work eligibility, a full NZ Driver Licence, and be medically fit for a demanding, rotating shift schedule.

Qualifications

• Legal right to work in New Zealand or a Work Visa with at least 24 months remaining.
• A full New Zealand Driver Licence (or be eligible to obtain one).
• Must declare conflicts of interest and previous convictions.
• Must be medically fit for employment and complete Medical Assessment and Physical Readiness Assessment.
• Willingness to work a rotating 24/7 roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Ensure security and wellbeing of people serving sentences or on remand.
• Induct people into their unit and supervise daily routines.
• Provide support to navigate life in prison and act as a prosocial role model.
• Participate in professional development and opportunities for career progression.
