Job summary

Far North District Council is seeking a Coordination & Engagement Lead for a one-year fixed-term role in the Climate Action & Resilience department. You will turn plans into action by coordinating projects, events, communications and engagement activities with precision and timeliness.

You should have five+ years in communications or coordination, strong stakeholder skills, and proficiency with MS Office. The role supports a diverse community with hybrid working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Five years plus experience in communications, engagement, administration or project coordination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisation and time management, able to work independently under pressure.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with high accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engagement plans and create clear content for internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate projects, meetings, workshops and public events, including logistics and scheduling.
  • Manage team inboxes, prepare agendas and minutes, and support presentations and reporting.
  • Maintain the team’s digital presence; ensure websites and online resources are current.
  • Track budgets, purchase orders and invoices; assist with procurement and reporting.
  • Support stakeholder engagement, research, data analysis and GIS mapping as required.

Te Wero – The Challenge

We are looking for a highly organised communicator and coordinator to join our Climate Action & Resilience department in this one-year fixed-term role. You will help turn plans into action by keeping projects, communications and engagement activity well-coordinated, timely and effective.

You will:

  • Develop engagement plans and create clear, engaging content for internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate projects, meetings, workshops and public events, including logistics, scheduling and document
  • Manage team inboxes and enquiries, prepare agendas and minutes, and support presentations and reporting.
  • Manage and enhance the team's digital presence, ensuring websites, online resources and digital communication channels remain accurate, engaging and up to date.
  • Track budgets, purchase orders and invoices, and assist with procurement, contracts and carbon emissions reporting.
  • Support stakeholder engagement, research, data analysis and GIS mapping as required.

You are a confident, practical and detail-focused professional who can balance competing priorities and build strong working relationships.

You'll bring:

  • At least five years' experience in communications, engagement, administration or project coordination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisation, documentation and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and discretion.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Comfort using basic te reo Māori and tikanga in the workplace, or a willingness to grow your capability.
  • A commitment to achieving great outcomes for Far North communities. Local government experience is an advantage.
