Job description

This is a brand-new role and a genuinely exciting opportunity to be first through the door. As our Content & Communications Specialist, you’ll work closely with our Head of Brand to help bring to life how Armstrong’s shows up wherever our customers and people are looking. That means social media, internal and external communications, EDMs, website content, dealership screens and more.

We’re one of NZ’s largest automotive retail groups, and we get to do something most marketers only dream of: work with genuinely brilliant products. Over 20 global brands, think Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, Toyota, Lexus, Land Rover and Mazda, plus some exciting newcomer brands making their mark in NZ.

We need someone who’s just as at home behind a design program as they are behind a camera or a keyboard. Real design skills, genuine confidence in the Adobe Creative Suite, and the range to move from a print ad one day to a slick video edit the next.

Just as important, you’ll play a key hands-on role in bringing our social media presence to life. Working alongside the Head of Brand, you’ll contribute ideas, help develop plans and take responsibility for turning them into great content. There will be a clear brand direction and strategy to work within, but plenty of room for someone clever to bring fresh thinking, spot opportunities and help us keep getting better.

This isn’t a role where we hand you the keys and disappear. You’ll have guidance, support and clear brand guidelines, while still having a genuine voice in the work and an opportunity to grow your influence as you grow with the team.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Working closely with the Head of Brand to help deliver Armstrong’s social media presence across Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok, contributing across planning, content creation, posting, community management and reporting.
  • Contributing ideas and insights to our social strategy, while helping turn the broader brand direction into great day-to-day execution.
  • Staying one step ahead of social media trends and platform features, bringing relevant opportunities back to the team so we're never the last to the party.
  • Designing polished content and assets across print, digital, social and video, hands-on in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Shooting and editing short and long-form video using mobile devices and DJI gimbal gear, cutting it all together in CapCut or Premiere Pro.
  • Writing and sending EDMs, press releases, thought leadership and other internal communications that people actually want to read.
  • Creating and maintaining website content, from news articles and guides through to vehicle launch announcements.
  • Playing brand police (the fun kind) by giving social content and EDMs a final check for spelling, grammar, accuracy and consistency before they go live.
  • Letting the data do some of the talking, using performance metrics to test, tweak and help us keep hitting the KPIs that matter.
  • Bringing genuinely fresh ideas to how Armstrong’s shows up in market and having the confidence to put forward a better way when you see one.
  • Bringing a genuine eye for detail while constantly looking for opportunities to improve and refine what we do.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who's equal parts creative, curious and organised. You might be at that point in your career where you’ve built a really solid foundation, know you’re good at what you do, and are ready for a role that gives you broader exposure and the opportunity to step up.

You can develop ideas and execute them to a high standard, but you also enjoy collaborating, taking direction and building on the thinking of others.

You’ll have the confidence to contribute your own point of view, while understanding that great brand work comes from working within a clear strategy and set of guardrails.

You’ll bring:
  • Around 3-5 years’ experience, ideally with solid foundations across both graphic design and social media.
  • Genuine proven design capability and confidence working across the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Social media savvy, up to speed on the latest trends, features and what’s actually working right now and what drives engagement.
  • Confidence behind a camera, shooting and editing video and stills. DJI experience is a big plus but not essential.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to flex tone effortlessly, from a punchy social caption to a formal internal update.
  • Comfort putting AI tools to work, freeing up more time for the creative stuff that matters.
  • Serious organisation skills, with the ability to juggle plenty of moving parts without dropping any of them.
  • A fast-learning, can-do, get-stuck-in attitude.
  • A collaborative mindset. Someone who enjoys being part of a team, brings good energy and is friendly and approachable.
  • Enough initiative to chase down what you need and keep things moving, rather than waiting for everything to land in your lap.
  • A love of cars is a bonus too for obvious reasons...
Why Join Us

This is a brand-new role with plenty of room to grow into. You’ll work closely with our Head of Brand and broader Marketing team, getting exposure across a huge variety of channels, projects and more than 20 of the world’s leading and most exciting emerging automotive brands.

For the right person, it’s an opportunity to build on a strong creative foundation, broaden your skillset and increasingly contribute to how a major New Zealand brand shows up in market. We want your ideas and your perspective, and as your capability grows, there’s genuine opportunity for your influence and responsibilities to grow with it.

You’ll be supported by a tight‑knit, collaborative Marketing team that genuinely values good ideas, wherever they come from. The culture is fun without trying too hard, with racing simulators, Friday drinks and people who enjoy coming to work and collaborating. Best of all, you’ll get to see your work out in the real world and make a meaningful contribution to the business.

About Armstrong's

We're one of New Zealand's largest automotive retail groups, with over 20 global brands, a nationwide network of dealerships, and a business that's growing fast. If cars get your pulse up even slightly, you'll fit right in.

Our Group office is based in Mt Wellington, and it's a proper work-from-work business. We're firm believers that the best ideas, and the best culture, come from people being in the same room, bouncing things off each other, solving problems together, and occasionally arguing about which car is objectively the coolest.

Because we also know work should be enjoyable, not just productive. Need a recharge mid‑afternoon? We've got proper barista coffee machines running the best Allpress beans in the building, so you're never far from a good espresso to keep you charged up. Feeling flat on a Wednesday? Take a few laps in the racing simulator. Made it to Friday? The team's usually found unwinding over a cold beer or a cheeky chardonnay, whatever gets you there.

We work hard and back each other properly, but we make sure there's always room to laugh along the way.

If you’ve built a strong foundation and are looking for the opportunity to take the next step, contribute some great ideas and learn a lot along the way, we’d love to hear from you.
