About the Role

We are looking for a Spinal Surgeon to join a fabulous department in Whangarei Hospital.

This is a permanent position based in Whangārei, with travel as required to rural areas in the mid and far north regions.

You will be part of a well‑supported collegial department with nine other Senior Consultants and eight Registrars, including three Trainees and four House Officers.

Responsibilities

• Supervision of acute operating lists (both spinal and general orthopaedic)
• Leading ward rounds, clinics and elective operating – particularly spines
• On‑call duties within the SMO team and involvement in audit
• Teaching, undertaking research and participating in continuing professional development

Qualifications

• Specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in an Orthopaedic Surgery vocational scope of practice
