Job summary

Nelson Marlborough Health in Nelson seeks a Consultant Adult Community Psychiatrist to lead outpatient assessments and treatment planning in a regional secondary care setting. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care and ensure continuity of follow-up for adults aged 18–65 with a range of mental health conditions.

The role offers a varied caseload, opportunities for service development, and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or equivalent.
• Annual Practising Certificate required and vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Experience as a consultant in outpatient psychiatry including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health and addictive disorders.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage adult outpatients; develop and implement comprehensive treatment programmes addressing psychological, social, and medication needs.
• Ensure effective follow-up and continuity of care within a regional secondary care service.
• Collaborate with Mental Health Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and other allied health professionals.
