Job summary

Spectrum Care in South Auckland is hiring a Community Support Worker to assist adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live great lives. You will help with daily living, socialising, community participation and work or education.

Based at Dale Crescent, you will support three women with varying needs; energy, empathy and clear communication are essential. A driver’s licence is preferred, as is NZ Sign Language knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting people with disabilities or challenging behaviours is essential.
  • NZ Sign Language knowledge is desirable but not required.
  • Willingness to pursue a Community Support Worker Level 3 or higher qualification.
  • A valid New Zealand driver’s licence is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal activities and daily living tasks.
  • Support community participation, socialising, work or education for the people you support.
  • Provide care and assistance to three residents at the Dale Crescent home.
  • Maintain safety and boundaries and respond calmly in difficult situations.
  • Communicate effectively with family, colleagues and the people you support.

Community Support Worker - South Auckland

Community Support Worker - Residential

Full time - 40 hours per week

$23.97 - $29.68 per hour

South Auckland location

At Spectrum Care, we provide support for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live great lives.

As a Community Support Worker, you take on tasks that are dynamic and will depend on the needs and dreams of each person. You will provide assistance with personal activities such as community participation, socialising, work or education and daily living tasks.

At our Dale Crescent home, you will be supporting three women with intellectual disabilities. One person is highly independent, while the othersare a young woman with high support needs associated with autism, and another woman with sensory disabilities, who is deaf and also has a slight vision impairment. The people we support enjoy music, shopping, social media, TikTok, dancing, Zumba, animals, spa activities and games, so an enthusiastic and energetic approach is important.

  • Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety
  • Good at explaining and negotiating
  • Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the people you support
  • Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
  • Confidence supporting people with challenging behaviours
  • Strength and resilience to support a person who may become physical at times
  • Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An interest in activities such as music, shopping, social media, dancing, animals and community participation
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities and/or behaviours that can be challenging is essential for the role
  • Knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) is highly desirable, but not required
  • Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Able to pass a NZ police check
  • The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email
  • An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work

If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:

  • Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, or
  • A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) - this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
