Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to step into the Clinical Nurse Specialist role for Taiao Ora (Ward 51) in Auckland. The position leads nursing and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe care, quality and patient outcomes.

The role is a permanent 1.0 FTE, Monday to Friday, 0730–1600, with responsibilities across clinical leadership, care planning, and discharge coordination.

Qualifications

• RN Level 3 or 4 or equivalent with current portfolio.
• At least 5–7 years post‑registration nursing experience; ideally in senior roles.
• Commitment to quality improvement and service development in nursing.
• Proven care coordination skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and team‑oriented approach.
• Commitment to biculturalism, equity, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
• Stroke & Neurology experience (Desired).
• Project management (Desired).

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Registered Nurse to step up and be the Clinical Nurse Specialist of Taiao Ora (Ward 51), reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist role has nursing professional and management accountability within a multidisciplinary team for clinical care, quality and safety service delivery. The role provides clinical and nursing leadership and management to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the services and contributes to the delivery of directorate objectives and nursing strategy

About the role

Taiao Ora (Ward 51) Stroke, Neurology and Rehabilitation service is an integral part of the Medical Directorate. The service cares for Hyper acute, Acute, Neurology and Rehabilitation patients. Also care for General medical outlier patients.

This is an Excellent Career Opportunity for a Senior Nurse to step up into a Senior Nursing Leadership Role. This is a permanent 1.0 FTE role working Monday to Friday 0730- 1600.

In this role you will:

• Coordinate care across the health continuum, to support patients and their whānau across both acute care and planned care.
• Provide expert advice and support to healthcare professionals, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and help deliver equitable outcomes that enhance patient experience, safety, and access to care.
• Work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, patient-centred care and participate in senior nurse level practice, support ward rounds and criteria led discharging.
• Coordinate and case manage care across the health continuum, working closely with inpatient teams, primary care, and community services to support seamless navigation of services for patients and their whanau.
• Champion equity by addressing barriers faced by Māori and Pacific communities. You will also embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, cultural safety and strong advocacy into everyday practice.

About you

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will bring advanced clinical expertise, leadership capability, and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care.

You are also expected to have the following:

• RN Level 3 or 4 or equivalent in specialty with a current professional portfolio. At least 5-7 years post-registration experience in nursing, ideally previous senior nurse role
• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and service development which includes quality improvement, education, research, clinical audit, or service development.
• Proven care coordination skills and confidence working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in teams. A patient-focused, inclusive, and team-oriented approach is essential.
• High-performing individual with a demonstrated track record of consistently delivering exceptional quality results.
