Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with a current APC.
• Endocrine or specialty nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performing dynamic endocrine testing and administer infusions and injections and phlebotomy.
• Booking and managing care for patients with endocrine disorders.
• Nurse-led follow-up clinics for patients with stable endocrine conditions.
• Undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments.
• Monitoring disease progression and escalating concerns to the Endocrinology medical team.
• Providing ongoing patient education and support to promote understanding of endocrine conditions and treatments.
• Coordinating investigations and ongoing care in collaboration with endocrinologists and other healthcare providers.
• Working autonomously within scope of practice and agreed clinical pathways.
• Supporting continuity of care through timely follow-up, documentation and communication with patients and whānau.
• Providing specialist endocrine nursing knowledge and clinical support to nursing, medical and allied health colleagues.
• Contributing to development and implementation of endocrine clinical guidelines and SOPs.
• Supporting quality improvement initiatives to improve patient safety and experience.

Job description

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital or Hutt HospitalContract: Permanent, Part Time 0.7 FTE, Monday to Friday 07:30 start time.

About the Role

We are excited to advertise a role for a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Endocrine in our supportive, expert Endocrine team. You may be an existing CNS Endocrine, or you may be looking for a challenging change of career. Either way, our team is looking for a motivated, experienced and skilled nurse to work closely with our Clinical Nurse Specialist and Senior Medical Team.

As part of this you will be responsible for clinic and patient management, and performance of a range of clinical tests to help in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of Endocrine disorders. You will also be providing pre-test patient preparation and education and post-test treatments. As you become more experienced you will also provide some nurse-led clinics, assessments, patient follow ups and other specialist services. If you have experience with endocrine disorders, outpatients setting and/or are keen and motivated to learn more about Endocrinology then we would love to hear from you.

The Diabetes and Endocrine Service is a District service covering Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, also including Kenepuru and Kapiti Health Centre and this role may be expected to work at any of these sites. This role does require 07:30am starts due to testing requirements. Your primary base can be negotiated.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Performing dynamic endocrine testing and administer infusions and injections and phlebotomy
• Booking and managing care for patients with a wide range of endocrine disorders
• Nurse-led follow-up clinics for patients with stable and/or chronic endocrine conditions.
• Undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments.
• Monitoring disease progression and response to treatment, identifying changes in clinical status and escalating concerns to the Endocrinology medical team as appropriate.
• Providing ongoing patient education and support to promote understanding of endocrine conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and self-management.
• Coordinating investigations, follow-up testing and ongoing care in collaboration with endocrinologists, primary care and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Working autonomously within scope of practice and agreed clinical pathways, while recognising when medical review or escalation is required.
• Supporting continuity of care through timely follow-up, documentation and communication with patients, whānau and other healthcare providers.
• Providing specialist endocrine nursing knowledge and clinical support to nursing, medical and allied health colleagues.
• Contributing to the development, review and implementation of endocrine clinical guidelines, protocols, patient information and standard operating procedures.
• Supporting quality improvement initiatives to improve patient safety, access, efficiency and patient experience within the Endocrine Service.

About you

• Registered Nurse with a current APC
• At least 3 - Endocrine or specialty nursing preferred (or willing and motivated to learn)
• Full New Zealand drivers' licence
• Post-graduate education an advantage
• Highly organised and confident to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective therapeutic relationships, provide clear patient education, and communicate confidently with patients, whānau and members of the multidisciplinary team
• A commitment to culturally safe, equitable and person- and whānau-centred care, including an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within health care.
• Sound clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a patient's clinical condition
• An interest in developing specialist endocrine nursing skills, including the delivery and monitoring of dynamic endocrine testing and patient education relating to endocrine conditions and treatments.
• Proficient in Phlebotomy, IV Cannulation and IV Therapy
• Proven direct experience with booking and scheduling, administrative tasks and excellent clinical documentation
