Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator for Whangārei Hospital's Emergency Department. The role provides clinical leadership, coordinates daily ED operations and supports patient flow and safety.

The successful candidate will have RN registration with significant ED experience, strong assessment and decision‑making skills, and a commitment to high‑quality, patient‑centred care within a multidisciplinary team.

About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, you will provide clinical leadership and coordination across the Emergency Department, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and patient‑centred care.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing visible clinical leadership and support to nursing staff
  • Coordinating the day-to-day clinical operations of the Emergency Department
  • Supporting patient flow, prioritisation and timely access to care
  • Providing clinical guidance and support in complex and challenging situations
  • Promoting high standards of nursing practice, patient safety and quality care
  • Supporting and mentoring nurses at different stages of their careers
  • Contributing to staff education, professional development and capability building
  • Working collaboratively with medical, allied health and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Identifying opportunities for service improvement and contributing to quality initiatives
  • Acting as a positive role model and advocate for patients, whānau and staff

The Emergency Department at Whangārei Hospital provides 24/7 emergency care to the people of Northland and sees a broad range of acute presentations across all age groups. About you

We are looking for an experienced ED nurse who brings strong clinical knowledge, confidence in a fast-paced environment, and a genuine commitment to supporting others. You will ideally have:

  • Current Registered Nurse registration and relevant nursing experience
  • Significant experience (minimum of five years) working in an Emergency Department
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision‑making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate care and manage competing priorities
  • A calm, supportive and approachable leadership style
  • A commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and evidence‑based practice
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A passion for developing and supporting other nurses
  • Previous leadership, charge nurse, shift coordinator or senior nursing experience would be advantageous.
