Job summary

Te Aroha Consulting in Wellington seeks an experienced civil engineer to lead investigations, planning and design for three waters infrastructure, including water supply, wastewater and stormwater.

You will analyse drainage networks, hydraulic models, LiDAR, GIS data and asset information to identify improvements, develop flood mitigation strategies and deliver high quality solutions on time. Strong communication with clients and stakeholders is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Water, Hydrology, or related Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in three waters projects including water supply, wastewater, and stormwater.
  • Strong knowledge of ANZ design standards and guidelines.
  • Hydrology, hydraulics, and pipeline design principles.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling (InfoWorks ICM/WS Pro; HEC-RAS essential).
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads.
  • Ability to design complex three waters networks and model pipelines.
  • Experience in drawings, specifications, schedules of quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake investigations, planning, and design for three waters infrastructure.

  • Assess assets via data, CCTV, GIS, and hydraulic models to identify deficiencies.
  • Perform stormwater network capacity assessments and mitigation.
  • Develop flood mitigation strategies including detention systems and upsizing.
  • Assess open channels for capacity, erosion, and maintenance.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Undertake investigations, planning, and design for three waters infrastructure, including stormwater, wastewater, and water supply systems.
  • Investigate urban flooding issues by analyzing drainage networks, catchment characteristics, LiDAR data, survey information, and historical flooding records.
  • Assess existing three waters assets by analyzing asset data, condition information, CCTV inspections, GIS data, previous investigations, and hydraulic models to identify hydraulic deficiencies and required improvements.
  • Perform stormwater network capacity assessments and develop engineering solutions to mitigate flooding, surcharging, and overland flow risks.
  • Develop flood mitigation strategies, including detention systems, network upgrades, pipe upsizing, and overland flow management solutions.
  • Assess open channels, waterways, and receiving environments for hydraulic capacity, erosion risks, vegetation impacts, and maintenance requirements.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Water, Hydrology, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the planning, design, and delivery of three waters infrastructure projects, including water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
  • Strong understanding of water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems, with sound knowledge of relevant Australian and New Zealand design standards and industry guidelines.
  • Sound understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and pipeline network design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in hydraulic modelling using InfoWorks ICM (1D/2D) or InfoWorks WS Pro. Experience with HEC-RAS is essential.
  • High level of proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and OpenRoads.
  • Proven ability to independently design complex three waters networks, including water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems, and undertake hydraulic modelling of pipelines, pump stations, and associated infrastructure.
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings, technical specifications, schedules of quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to deliver high quality engineering solutions within project timeframes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.

Pay range starts from $80000 - $85000 per annum based on 40 hours per week.
