Job summary

Absolute IT in New Zealand is seeking a senior Cisco Engineer to join a high-performing infrastructure team supporting a complex, distributed network across datacentres, campuses, and remote sites.

This hands-on role demands deep Cisco expertise, leadership, and the ability to mentor engineers while maintaining network resilience and driving improvements in routing, VPNs, and security. The position is based in Waitakere & West Auckland with security vetting and on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• CCNA and/or CCNP certifications with proven large-scale enterprise networking support.
• Advanced routing and switching in large environments.
• Expertise in BGP, OSPF, and enterprise routing.
• Experience designing and supporting IPSec VPNs at scale.
• Strong troubleshooting across distributed networks.
• Experience in multi-vendor environments.
• Hands-on monitoring, diagnostics, and incident resolution.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, datacentre, and remote environments.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex network, routing, and connectivity issues.
• Manage and optimise large-scale IPSec VPN solutions.
• Support datacentre switching and network fabric infrastructure.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to deliver network services and upgrades.
• Contribute to network architecture, technology refresh initiatives, and continuous improvement.
• Support network automation and configuration management practices.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to a team of engineers.
• Participate in an on-call roster following onboarding.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Cisco Engineer to join a high-performing infrastructure team responsible for supporting a complex, geographically distributed network environment.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role where you’ll design, build, support, and optimise critical network services while helping provide technical leadership across the wider team. You’ll be responsible for maintaining network resilience, driving rapid fault resolution, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of enterprise network capabilities.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise across Cisco technologies, large-scale networking environments, routing, VPNs, and network security, alongside a passion for mentoring others and improving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, datacentre, and remote environments
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex network, routing, and connectivity issues

About You

Essential Experience

• Cisco CCNA and/or CCNP Certifications PLUS, extensive experience supporting large-scale enterprise network environments
• Advanced Cisco networking experience across routing and switching
• Strong knowledge of BGP, OSPF, and enterprise routing technologies
• Proven experience designing and supporting IPSec VPNs at scale
• Strong troubleshooting skills across complex and distributed network environments
• Experience working in multi-vendor environments
• Hands-on experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and incident resolution

Highly Desirable

• Juniper networking experience
• Palo Alto firewall administration experience
• Network automation experience using Ansible, Git, or similar tools
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers
• Understanding of IP telephony and voice networking

You’ll be a Cisco engineer with deep technical expertise. You enjoy solving complex networking challenges, working collaboratively across teams, and helping shape the future direction of enterprise infrastructure services.

You will need a full clean Class 1 drivers licence.

As this role requires a high level of security clearance, you will need to be / have been a NZ, UK, Australian, Canadian or USA citizen for a minimum of 15 years to be eligible for this role.
