Job summary

Christchurch City Council is seeking an Executive Advisor to the Chief Executive. This permanent, full-time role provides trusted advice, organisational insight and executive coordination to the Chief Executive, ensuring priorities and decisions are progressed efficiently.

You will oversee matters requiring the Chief Executive’s attention, identify emerging issues and coordinate across Council, using sound judgement and strong relationships to influence outcomes and drive delivery.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in advisory, governance or executive coordination in a complex organisation.
• Strong analytical skills to identify risks, opportunities and implications.
• Sound judgement with the ability to prioritise, challenge constructively and escalate when required.
• Ability to influence outcomes and drive matters to completion across the organisation.
• Excellent written communication skills for executive briefings, reports and correspondence.
• Strong relationship skills with senior leaders, elected members and external stakeholders.
• Political awareness and discretion handling sensitive matters.
• Proactive, improvement-focused organisational capability.
• Public sector or politically sensitive experience.

Responsibilities

• Acting as a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive, providing insight on priorities, emerging issues, risks and opportunities.
• Assessing, prioritising and coordinating matters requiring the Chief Executive’s attention, exercising judgement about priorities and impact.
• Reviewing reports, briefings, recommendations and decision papers to ensure they are robust and decision-ready.
• Maintaining oversight of key organisational commitments, initiatives and Chief Executive actions.
• Driving resolution of issues requiring coordination across organisational boundaries.
• Building trusted relationships with senior leaders, elected members and external stakeholders.
• Leading continuous improvements in Executive Office systems, processes and governance practices.
