Job summary

Central South Island Water Limited is seeking a Chief Executive to guide the JWO through its establishment and into steady-state operations from 1 July 2027. Based in the South Canterbury/Mackenzie region, you will lead strategic direction, governance, and engagement with mana whenua and communities.

The role requires exceptional senior leadership in regulated environments, strong commercial and financial acumen, and the ability to build a high-performing, values-led team.

Qualifications

• Senior executive leadership experience in complex, publicly accountable or regulated environments.
• Proven track record establishing or transforming large organisations.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with capital investment experience.
• Excellent governance, stakeholder engagement, and mana whenua relationships.
• Ability to operate in a high-stakes, high-visibility public sector setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead the establishment and ongoing operation of the JWO from inception.
• Shape strategic direction, governance frameworks, and organisational culture.
• Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and asset management.
• Manage staff transfer from local councils and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Build trusted relationships with Shareholder Councils, regulators, and communities.
