Methven Playcentre is seeking a part-time Centre Coordinator to work 11 hours per week during term time, starting 12 October 2026. The role focuses on building adult capability and confidence within the centre whānau.

You will provide high-quality pedagogical guidance as Person Responsible on session, ensure sessions reflect Playcentre Philosophy and support tamariki learning. You will engage with whānau, model practices, and promote Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, Te Whāriki knowledge, and

Qualifications

  • Experience in Playcentre or early education supportive role.
  • Knowledge of Te Whāriki and ECE regulations.
  • First Aid certification.
  • NZ residency or valid NZ work visa.

Responsibilities

  • Develop whānau to be the first educators for their tamariki with rich, child-led curriculum experiences.
  • Role-model and support high-quality, whānau-led sessions.
  • Provide guidance on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery.
  • Ensure sessions meet regulatory and health and safety obligations.
  • Promote Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori cultural values within Playcentre.

Job description

Early learning / kōhanga reo, Certificated teacher

11 hours per week | Part-time | Starting 12 October 2026

  • Monday 9.15am – 1.15pm
  • Tuesday 9.15am – 12.45pm
  • Thursday 9.15am – 12.45pm
  • Permanentposition during term time only

About the role

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences
  • Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions
  • Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery
  • Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations
  • Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values

About you

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
  • Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
  • Confidence using technology to support learning & administration
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
