Job summary

Barnardos Aotearoa in Hamilton is seeking two registered Social Workers to join our Care Placement Support Social Work service, delivered in partnership with Oranga Tamariki. This fixed-term, full-time role (40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 8.30am-5pm) runs through to 1 September 2027 and involves embedded work with the Hamilton City teams.

Qualifications

• Recognised Social Work qualification and full SWRB registration.
• Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
• Proven New Zealand experience working with tamariki, rangatahi and whānau, ideally within care and protection or statutory care settings.
• The ability to work independently, with strong time management and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Support tamariki and rangatahi in care to achieve safe, stable care arrangements.
• Assist with return-home planning and permanency planning.
• Develop clear assessments and reports to support decision-making.
• Collaborate with Oranga Tamariki, caregivers, whānau and other professionals.
• Contribute to planning that supports stability, safety, connection and positive outcomes.
• Adapt to changing situations and respond to urgent matters.
• Work in a trauma‑informed, child‑centred and culturally responsive way.
