Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Data Migration Intern to support migrating engineering data from EPDM to Siemens Teamcenter at the Auckland Production Complex. You will work with the Senior CAD Administrator to extract, transform, and import CAD data, develop automation scripts, and document processes to ensure a smooth PLM transition for Electron and Neutron programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We'relooking for a detail-oriented and technically proficient intern to join our Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) team at our Auckland Production Complex. As a CAD Data Migration Intern, you will support the migration of engineering data from the EPDM system to Siemens Teamcenter.

This role involves working closely with the Senior CAD Administrator to extract, transform, and import CAD metadata and files, ensuring a smooth andaccuratetransition to the new PLM environment.You'llbe instrumental in managing a critical data migration project that willimpactengineering workflows across the entire organization, supporting both our Electron and Neutron launch vehicle programs.

This is an opportunity to work on real enterprise systems and apply your CAD/CAM and software engineering skills while gaining valuable experience in PLM tools and engineering data management.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Data Migration & Management:
    • Collaborate with the Senior CAD Administrator to define andidentifymissing data from legacy CAD systems that need to be translated and uploaded into our current PLM environment
    • Prepare exported data for translation using the ELYSIUM CAD Translator
    • Manage translated CAD files and reports for import into Teamcenter
    • Support efforts to reduce number and duplication of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) parts
  • Automation & Scripting:
    • Develop and test automation scripts to populate or correct metadata in exported CAD files
    • Create scripts to streamline the data migration process
    • Support process automation to improve migration efficiency and data quality
  • Documentation & Quality Assurance:
    • Document all processes, scripts, mapping files, and data locations
    • Validate data accuracy throughout the migration process
    • Create technical documentation to support ongoing migration activities

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

MUST HAVE:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Experience with SQL, scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell), and data transformation tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Interest in CAD systems, PLM tools, and engineering data management
  • Ability to apply engineering and industry concepts and theories
  • Takes ownership and accountability for task completion by delivering results
  • Self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Familiarity with CAD software (Siemens NX, SolidWorks)
  • Experience with Python scripting for automation
  • Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) principles
  • Understanding of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) concepts, particularly Siemens Teamcenter
  • Experience with EPDM systems
  • Experience with data migration projects
  • Knowledge of database management and query optimization
  • Understanding of engineering change management processes
  • Version control experience (e.g., Git)
  • Passion for aerospace, space technology, and innovation
