The Department of Botany at the University of Otago invites applications for a permanent, full-time Lecturer in Botany based in Ōtepoti Dunedin. The successful candidate will conduct high-impact research in plant genetics/physiology or related fields and teach across Botany programmes.

Qualifications

  • PhD with a research focus in plant genetics, plant physiology, plant pathology, or similar field.
  • Strong track record of publishing in high-quality journals and presenting at national/international forums.
  • Experience collaborating with students and staff from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish, develop and sustain an independent research programme with funding success.
  • Effective communication and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teaching and supervision in Botany modules and programmes.
  • Pursue and develop funded research aligned with the department's priorities.
  • Contribute to teaching and research opportunities that engage Māori or Pasifika communities.
  • Participate in service within the department, university, and wider community.
