Job summary

Compass Group New Zealand is seeking a customer-focused Barista to join the Middlemore Hospital café on a casual basis. You will prepare and serve quality espresso beverages, handle the POS system and support daily cafe operations.

This role offers flexible shifts, training and development pathways, and opportunities to advance within our hospitality teams. Prior barista or customer service experience is valued, along with NZ residency or a valid NZ visa.

We are looking for an experienced and customer-focused Barista to join our team at Middlemore Hospital.

This is a casual position, with shifts offered as and when required based on business needs. Weekly hours are not guaranteed.

You will support the day-to-day operation of the coffee bar, preparing and serving quality espresso beverages and retail products. You will also provide welcoming customer service, operate the point-of-sale system, maintain stock levels and keep the coffee bar clean, safe and ready for service.

• Prepare, present and serve quality espresso coffee and other beverages.
• Deliver warm, friendly and professional service to customers.
• Operate the point-of-sale system and process transactions accurately.
• Receive, replenish and rotate stock while helping to minimise waste.
• Clean and maintain the coffee bar, espresso machine and public areas.
• Previous barista or customer service experience in a similar environment.
• The ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage your time effectively.
• Strong communication skills and a professional approach to customers.
• A flexible, reliable and positive approach to casual work.
• The ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team.
• AnNZQA Level 2 or 3 Barista Skills Certificate, equivalent training or an NZQA Food Handling Certificate would be advantageous.
