Job summary

Rocket Lab in Auckland is seeking an Avionics Technician to join our hands-on manufacturing team. You will build and assemble electronic components of the Electron launch vehicle, including HV battery assembly, crimping and wire harnessing.

Ideal candidates have trade qualifications or 2+ years of relevant experience, strong PCB/wiring inspection skills, and experience with test equipment. Relocation assistance is available.

  • Trade qualification or 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with precision electrical and/or mechanical assembly.
  • Experience operating electrical, mechanical and automated test equipment.
  • Understanding of standard industry ESD policy.
  • Excellent PCB and wiring inspection skills.
  • Ability to solder and wire harness to high workmanship standards.

  • Hands-on assembly of electronic components for the Electron rocket.

About Rocket Lab

Rocket Lab is an end‑to‑end space company delivering responsive launch services, complete spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, satellite components, and more – all with the goal of opening access to space. Our Electron rocket is the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket annually and has delivered more than 230 satellites to orbit. We are also developing Neutron, our upcoming medium‑lift reusable launch vehicle, and designing a line of satellites for NASA missions to the Moon and Mars, including components used on the James Webb Space Telescope.

What You’ll Get to Do

As an Avionics Technician you will be hands‑on, working with tools and equipment to build and assemble all electronic components of the Electron launch vehicle. Duties include HV battery assembly, crimping and constructing wire harnesses, and precision soldering of PCBs and avionics components.

Shift Details

Evening shift Monday to Thursday (15:00 to 01:30). You’ll enjoy a 3‑day weekend every week and an additional evening shift allowance. Relocation assistance is available if required.

Essential Skills
  • Trade qualified in a relevant industry and/or 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Precision electrical and/or mechanical assembly experience
  • Operation of electrical, mechanical and automated test equipment
  • Understanding of standard industry ESD policy
  • Excellent visual inspection skills for PCBs and wiring assemblies
  • Ability to manufacture components to a high workmanship standard, including soldering and wire harnessing

  • Ability to read, understand and follow manufacturing instructions and drawings
