Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director – Team Leader | Building Structures in Auckland. You’ll influence the future of structural engineering while growing client partnerships, mentoring teams and driving strategic initiatives across the Buildings + Places practice.

You’ll work with the National Structures Lead to deliver complex projects, shape the business, and progress toward Director leadership with senior support and clear milestones. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering required.
  • CPEng status or eligibility is required or strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering complex structural engineering projects in a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Ability to build trusted client relationships and contribute to growth.
  • Commercial awareness and experience supporting proposals or pursuits.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with passion for innovation and digital delivery.
  • Desire to step into broader leadership with a clear progression path.

Job Description

As Associate Director – Team Leader | Building Structures, you'll have the opportunity to influence the future of AECOM’s structural engineering business while working on some of New Zeland’s most exciting and technically challenging projects. This is more than a technical leadership role – it’s a chance to shape strategy, grow key client partnerships, mentor high-performing teams, and play a pivotal role in the continued success of our Structures practice.

Working closely with the National Structures Lead, you'll help drive strategic initiatives and operational excellence while positioning yourself as a future leader within the business. With a clear pathway from Auckland Team Lead to ultimately Director, you'll be supported by senior mentors and backed by dedicated bid and market teams, allowing you to focus on what you do best: delivering exceptional outcomes and building lasting client relationships.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the National Structures Lead in delivering strategic initiatives and operational excellence across the practice.
  • Lead the delivery of complex structural engineering projects, ensuring high-quality technical outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers, fostering capability development and collaboration.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key clients, taking account lead responsibility for select priority accounts.
  • Contribute to business development activities, pursuits, proposals, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Champion innovation, digital engineering, and efficient delivery methods that improve quality and client value.
  • Collaborate across New Zealand, Australia, and AECOM’s global network to deliver best-in-class solutions.
  • Progress along a clearly defined pathway to Director, supported by transparent milestones and senior leadership sponsorship.
Qualifications

We're looking for an ambitious and technically accomplished structural engineer who's ready to broaden their impact beyond projects and into people, clients, and business leadership. Experience across healthcare and aviation sectors is highly valued, with mission-critical projects considered a significant advantage.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or eligibility.
  • Strong experience delivering complex structural engineering projects within a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a passion for mentoring and developing others.
  • The ability to build trusted client relationships and contribute to business growth.
  • Commercial awareness and experience supporting proposals, pursuits, or strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for innovation, digital delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • A genuine desire to step into a broader leadership role with a clear pathway for progression.
