Job summary

sKids is seeking an Assistant Programme Manager at our Riverhead site in Auckland. You will assist with day-to-day operations and step up as 2IC, leading sessions when needed and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for children aged 5–12.

You will plan activities, supervise groups, and support staff and parents throughout sessions. The role offers hours starting from 10 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with shifts from 7am–8:30am and 2:30pm–6:00pm.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (e.g. OSCAR, childcare, coaching, teaching, camps, or similar).
• Able to step into a leadership role when needed and make decisions.
• Experience managing behaviour in group settings with calmness and consistency.
• Team player who can both support and lead others when required.
• Strong communication with children, parents, and school staff.
• Must have the right to work in New Zealand (visa or citizenship).
• Reliable transport to reach the Riverhead site.

Responsibilities

• Support the Programme Manager in day-to-day running of the sKids programme for smooth operations.
• Step up as 2IC and lead sessions when the Programme Manager is away.
• Supervise large groups of tamariki, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and fun environment.
• Assist in planning and delivering structured activities (arts, sports, games, offsite trips).
• Support with managing behaviour using positive guidance strategies.
• Guide and support Programme Assistants on shift to ensure smooth activities.
• Build positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and school staff through clear communication.
• Assist with set-up, pack-down, and preparation of resources for each session.

Job description

As an Assistant Programme Manager, you’ll be the friendly face that makes the mornings & afternoons unforgettable for children. You’ll be working a minimum of 10 hours per week, rostered across Monday to Friday

• Morning/ Before school shifts runs between 7am - 8.30am.
• Afternoon/ After School shifts runs between 2.30pm–6.00pm. Availability from 2.30pm is essential, though finish times may vary.
• Potential school holiday programmes hours available (between 7am - 6pm).

Qualifications

We’d love to hear from you if you:

• Have the legal right to work in New Zealand (valid visa or citizenship)
• Have reliable transport to get to our sKids Riverhead site
• Have experience working with groups of children (e.g. OSCAR, childcare, coaching, teaching, camps, or similar)
• Are confident stepping into a leadership role when needed, with the ability to take initiative and make decisions
• Have exposure to managing behaviour in group settings and can remain calm, firm, and supportive
• Are a team player who can both support and lead others when required
• Communicate well with both children and adults, including parents and school staff
• Are over the age of 20 years old (as per Social Security (Childcare Assistance) Regulations 2004)
