Job summary

Papakura High School is seeking an energetic, reflective educator to join as Assistant Head of Department (HoD). Design engaging, relevant lessons and help drive the school's vision and kaupapa.

You will support HoD with initiatives, oversee curriculum and teaching, and promote student-centred, project-based learning through the 6STP framework. NZ teacher registration is advantageous but not required initially.

About the role

Are you an energetic, reflective educator with experience in high-equity index kura or similar settings? We are seeking an Assistant HoD to design engaging, relevant lessons and help drive the vision and kaupapa of our school.

Key responsibilities

• Leadership: Actively support the HoD with new initiatives and lead one or more year-level programmes.
• Curriculum and teaching: Oversee programme planning, delivery, assessment, progress monitoring, and reporting while carrying out secondary teaching duties under current Professional Standards.
• Innovation: Promote the 6STP and contribute to student-centered, project-based learning.

Requirements and salary

New Zealand teacher registration and certification would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite for applicants. However, the successful applicant will need to obtain this before commencing.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position is set by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement. The base salary for trained and registered teachers ranges from $68,685.00 to $105,686.00, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Individuals actual base salary will be established by a salary assessment once a role is confirmed.
