Job summary

Archway Recruitment seeks an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team in Lower Hutt. You will own key accounting processes and gain exposure across fixed assets, reconciliations, reporting, audits and finance projects.

You will report to the Finance Manager and support journals, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting while developing technical skills and pursuing the CA pathway within 12–18 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Collaborative working style and willingness to support the wider finance team.
• Interest in progressing through the CA pathway within 12–18 months.

Responsibilities

• Prepare credit applications for management review.
• Monitor credit risk and maintain customer accounts.
• Respond to customer queries on balances, invoices and credits.
• Prepare and process IRD returns and payments.
• Complete account reconciliations and process financial journals.
• Support monthly and quarterly reporting and audit requests.
• Provide support across accounts payable/receivable, payroll and other finance activities.

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team of a large and well-established commercial organisation. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop a broad understanding of how a complex business operates. You will take ownership of key accounting processes while gaining exposure across fixed assets, credit, reconciliations, reporting, audit and finance projects.

About the role:

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide finance support across a wider group. A key focus will be managing and maintaining the fixed asset register. Over time, you will gain further exposure to journals, analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and audit support. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Preparing credit applications for management review
• Monitoring credit risk and maintaining customer accounts
• Responding to customer queries relating to balances, invoices and credits
• Preparing and processing IRD returns and payments
• Completing account reconciliations and processing financial journalsSupporting monthly and quarterly reporting
• Assisting with internal and external audit requests
• Providing support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and other finance activities when required

About you:

We are looking for candidates who may already be working in an Assistant Accountant or Finance Assistant role, or someone who may be ready to make the move from an accounting firm into a commercial environment. You’ll be keen to continue developing your technical accounting skills and looking to commence your CA programme within the next 12–18 months.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who brings a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the motivation to grow their career within a supportive team. To be successful in this role you will ideally bring:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
