Job summary

Aurora Energy is seeking an Asset Lifecycle Engineer – Zone Substations to shape the long-term performance and renewal of its substation assets across Otago and Canterbury. The role collaborates with planning, operations, and external partners to prioritise investments and optimise network reliability.

You will lead maintenance strategies, analyse asset data, and drive risk-based renewal programmes while supporting the Asset Management Plan and adoption of new technologies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 7 or equivalent).
• 5+ years’ experience with high-voltage substation assets.
• Experience in design, installation, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or asset management.
• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, reliability, and risk-based decision making.
• Knowledge of high-voltage equipment, failure modes, and condition assessment techniques.
• Confidence working with asset data, engineering analysis, and long-term planning.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of maintenance and renewal strategies for zone substation assets.
• Monitor asset health, reliability, performance, and emerging risks across the fleet.
• Analyse condition, defect, and performance data to support evidence-based engineering decisions.
• Investigate failures and defects, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop risk-based renewal programmes that balance reliability, safety, and whole-of-life cost.
• Contribute to Aurora’s long-term asset investment planning and Asset Management Plan.
• Support the evaluation and adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and asset management practices.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and suppliers to deliver best-for-network outcomes.
