Responsibilities

  • Operate asphalt plant equipment and pavers, ensuring correct setup and material flow.
  • Assist with pre-start checks and routine maintenance.
  • Coordinate with foreman and crew to maintain safety and schedules.
  • Carry out site duties including manual tasks and basic shovelling when required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient worksite.
  • Be prepared to travel to different NZ regions for projects.

Job description

We are looking for multiple experienced Asphalt Plant Operators who have a good attitude towards work and great references. You will be completing various earthmoving duties related to operating road construction plants in construction and other projects.

About you:

Successful candidates must be a NZ citizen or resident and have at least 3 years full-time Asphalt Plant Operation work experience and a class 2 driver license.

Duties include:
  • Work closely with the Foreman and Leading Hand to ensure projects are completed safely and on schedule
  • Operate Class 2 machinery and a range of asphalt plant equipment
  • Operate asphalt pavers, ensuring correct setup, alignment, and consistent material flow to meet specified levels and compaction requirements
  • Assist with the operation and adjustment of side screeds, including setting widths, managing extensions, and maintaining correct levels and falls
  • Monitor mat quality during paving, including thickness, temperature, and finish, and make real-time adjustments as required
  • Coordinate with truck drivers and ground crew to ensure a steady and efficient supply of asphalt to the paver
  • Carry out pre-start checks and routine maintenance on equipment, including pavers, rollers, tractor brooms, crew cabs, and Class 2 trucks
  • Assist with plant operations, including spotting for machinery movements and maintaining safe working distances
  • Support manual tasks on site, including breaking up asphalt in areas inaccessible to machinery
  • Perform shovelling and screeding of asphalt where required to achieve required finish
  • Maintain a clean and tidy worksite at all times
  • May operate other civil machines/vehicles and perform manual labouring
The ideal candidate will also have:
  • Been able to pass police check and drug test.
  • A valid driver license, class 2 or higher .
About the role:

- Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed, maximum up to 70 hour of work per week.

- Hourly wage ranging from $28.00 - $35.00.

- Permanent role – Monday to Friday, with extra shifts available on weekends.

- As part of your employment, you may be required to travel to a different region for a different project, including, Auckland, Manawatū-Whanganui, Marlborough, Waikato, Wellington, Otago, Nelson, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Northland, West Coast, Bay of Plenty, Canterbury, Gisborne, Southland.

- You will be given reasonable notice if you are required to relocate to another region. Franklin Smith will cover transportation and accommodation expenses related to the relocation.
