Job summary

Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai is seeking an AOD Practitioner – Ringa Riwha to join the James Liston Hostel team in Auckland Central. The role blends clinical AOD expertise with service development to deliver culturally grounded, evidence-based care for whānau in transitional housing.

The successful candidate will support healing, trauma-informed practices and inter-agency collaboration, aligning with Mission values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualifications or leadership experience with DAAPANZ registration.
• Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Mission values.
• Experience with clients facing trauma, addiction, homelessness and related challenges.
• Valid NZ Driver's Licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, supportive environment for clients using alcohol and other drugs, including those with co-existing mental health issues.
• Deliver comprehensive AOD services including active and withdrawal assessments, care planning and risk assessments.
• Conduct individual and group sessions with tailored therapeutic interventions.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure continuity across shifts.
• Collaborate with community AOD services and external agencies to support continuity of care.

About The Role

The AOD Practitioner – Ringa Riwha plays a pivotal role in the James Liston Hostel team, supporting whānau who use alcohol and other Drug (AOD) in a Transitional housing setting. This role combines clinical expertise with service development to ensure the delivery of responsive, evidence-based, and culturally grounded care. The Practitioner will champion healing, transformation, trauma-informed care, and service integration, contributing to a model that is fit for purpose and aligned with The Missions Values and upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

What You Will Be Doing

• Provide a safe, supportive environment for clients who actively use alcohol and drugs, including those with co-existing mental health issues.
• Deliver comprehensive AOD Services including active and withdrawal assessments, care planning, mental health and risk assessments, and psychosocial goal setting.
• Conduct individual and group sessions, offering therapeutic interventions tailored to client strengths and needs.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation (case notes and reports) and ensure information is communicated appropriately across shifts.
• Liaise with community AOD services, specialist nurses, rehabilitation services, and external agencies to support continuity care.

What We Are Looking For

• Postgraduate qualifications and/or experience in Management or Team Leadership, with DAAPANZ registration as a Practitioner.
• Capacity to demonstrate through actions commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Mission’s values of Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Rangapū and Mana Tika, Mana Ōrite
• Experience working with clients facing complex challenges, including the impacts of colonisation in Aotearoa, trauma, mental health, addiction, poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness.
• Proven ability to manage competing demands and priorities while staying focused on achieving outcomes.
• A current Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
