We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.

Te Tūranga | The role

Join our Financial Advice team as an Adviser, in either Auckland or Wellington. Our Financial Advice team supervises and monitors the financial advice sector, including all Financial Advice Providers (FAPs) ranging from sole advisers, through to large banks, insurers and investment management providers.

This is a frontline supervisory role where you will have regular engagement with a wide range of FAP related financial market participants. We work closely with cross sector teams such as Deposit Taking, Insurance, Investment Management and Regulatory Services. The role is broad, and no two days are the same - you could be doing anything from conducting a monitoring review, assessing potential cases of enquiry or misconduct, to building relationships with entities through operational meetings or hosting an educational industry workshop.

In this role, you'll get a front row seat across the broadest and largest population of entities that the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) regulates.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting strategic conduct supervision using FMA’s risk-based, outcomes-focused framework
  • Engaging with market participants under our Entity-Based Monitoring principles
  • Reviewing compliance with financial markets legislation and working with internal teams
  • Identifying risks and harms, and applying appropriate regulatory tools to address them
  • Supporting continuous improvement of our monitoring and regulatory practices
He kōrero mōu | About you

This is a great opportunity for someone who is a critical thinker and will be able to adapt to an ever-changing regulatory environment. We welcome applicants from the financial markets including those in the banking industry, funds management, insurance, consultancy, financial services or financial advice provider. Alternatively, if you bring different experience but feel your skills are transferable, we’d love to hear from you!

Ideally, you will have an understanding of the FMA’s role in the financial markets and a genuine interest in our mahi!

Ngā painga | What we offer

We offer some great benefits including a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, health and life insurance cover, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you. Additionally, we have exceptional learning and development opportunities including access to leadership development, technical training, and external coaching.

At the FMA we’re committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.
