Job summary

Extrastaff is hiring full-time Construction Specialists in Nelson, NZ. The role requires interpreting drawings, constructing and finishing structures, and working on major infrastructure and commercial projects across various regions.

Ideal candidates have 2 years in construction or a Level 4 qualification, and hold a NZ driver license. Travel across NZ is expected; PPE and tools are provided by the company.

Qualifications

• 2-year experience in construction or Level 4 qualification.
• NZ driver license or overseas equivalent.
• Able to work independently and adapt to new environments.
• Experience on commercial, infrastructure, or civil construction projects preferred.
• Sound knowledge of H&S procedures.
• Understanding of workplace health, safety, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Construct, install and repair framework and structures, formwork, framing, cladding and finishing work.
• Cut materials, assemble and install doors, windows, cladding, insulation, linings, and finishing elements.
• Construct concrete formwork, create metal and wood structures forms or chutes using fasteners and hand tools.
• Erect and dismantle scaffolding and access equipment according to safety standards.
• Cover subfloors with building paper and lay hardwood floors.
• Repair and maintain existing fittings.
• Load and unload materials and transport around sites.
• Work on rotating project sites across the country.
• Carry out any other duties to support objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Construct, install and repairframework and structures, formwork, framing, cladding and finishing work, including foundation, walls, floors, roofs and ceilings
• Cut materials, assemble andInstall doors, windows, cladding, insulation, linings, and finishing elements
• Construct concrete formwork, createmetal and woodstructures forms or chutesby using fasteners, rod bending machines or hand tools,and assist inpouring concrete if required
• Erectand dismantlescaffoldingand access equipment for assembling structures above ground level, in accordance with safety standards
• Cover subfloors with building paper to keep out moisture and lay hardwood, parquet, or wood strip block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base
• Repair and maintainexisting fittings
• Loading and unloading building and construction materials, tools and equipment and transporting them around sites
• Work on rotating project sites across the country
• Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the employer to support project and business objectives.

Skills and experience required:

• 2-year experience in the construction industry or Level 4 relevant qualification
• NZ Driver license or overseas equivalent is required
• Able to work independently and adapt to new environments
• Experience working on commercial, infrastructure, or civil construction projects preferred.
