Job summary

Mt Wellington Engineering, based in Auckland, seeks an experienced engineer to lead the workshop alongside the Managing Director, staying hands-on while coordinating fabrication, maintenance and customer liaison.

You’ll drive quotes, workflow, training of apprentices, and growth initiatives; equity share opportunity and plans for product development and export. This role develops leadership and business management skills in a well-established firm.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree or trade qualification in fitting & turning
• Excellent communication, customer relationship and sales skills
• Strong machining experience (fabrication and welding a plus)
• CAD experience advantageous
• Leadership or workshop coordination experience
• Willingness to train apprentices
• NZ resident with legal right to work in New Zealand
• Varied work across multiple industries
• Opportunity to develop leadership and business management skills

Mt Wellington Engineering has been delivering quality engineering solutions across New Zealand for over 75 years. Based in Auckland, we provide machining, fabrication, industrial maintenance, equipment repairs and custom manufacturing to customers across the marine, transport, civil, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.

We're looking for an experienced engineer to work alongside our Managing Director, leading our workshop while remaining hands-on. This role combines practical engineering with workshop coordination, customer liaison, quoting and workflow management.

You'll bring:

• Mechanical Engineering or Trade qualification in Fitting & Turning or similar
• Excellent communication, customer relationship and sales skills
• Strong machining experience (fabrication and welding an advantage)
• Engineering design ability with CAD experience and advantage
• Leadership or workshop coordination experience
• Willingness to help train and support apprentices
• A practical, solutions-focused attitude
• NZ resident with local experience and the legal right to work in New Zealand
• Varied work across multiple industries
• A stable business with a loyal, diversified customer base
