Job summary

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is seeking an Accountant to join our busy finance team. You will handle month-end journals, accruals, reconciliations and prepare brigade grants, with focus on accuracy and timeliness.

This fixed-term role (ASAP to 30 June 2027) offers exposure across the organisation, collaboration with multiple Finance teams and opportunities to improve processes while supporting Parliament questions as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accountancy or equivalent qualification.
• Advanced MS Office skills.
• Experience with monthly and year-end reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of accounting processes in large organisations.
• Experience in stakeholder management and customer relations.
• Tax knowledge is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Process brigade grants, levy reconciliations, capitalisations, disposals and asset transfers.
• Support Parliamentary and Select Committee questions and wider team workloads.
• Contribute to process improvements and efficiency reviews.
• Coordinate information with other Finance teams and the organisation.
