Job description
Tour Guides Wanted for the 2026 Season – Join the I Local Bergen Team

I Love Bergen

Love Bergen and enjoy sharing it with others? We’re looking for enthusiastic guides to join our small, lively team for the 2026 season.

About Us

I Love Bergen is a locally owned guide company that’s been sharing this city with visitors for four years. We’re proud to be Bergen’s newest guiding team and one of the most highly rated, with A Walk Through Bergen Past & Present ranked number one on TripAdvisor, Viator, Airbnb, Google, and GetYourGuide.

We’re a close-knit group of 14 guides who all call Bergen home. We keep our team intentionally small, so every guide is valued, known, and supported. Alongside our popular walking tours, we also offer off-the-beaten-path experiences, hikes, food tours, and themed tours. We work with cruise ships, tour operators, and a wide range of international travellers.

As we expand with new tours and more multilingual experiences in 2026, we’re looking for new guides to help us grow.

We are seeking guides who speak:

  • German
  • Spanish
  • French

We are launching public tours in German and Spanish, so guides in these languages will have dedicated opportunities. Speakers of other languages are very welcome, especially for private tours.

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll be a great fit if you:

  • Are warm, friendly, and enjoy talking to people
  • Love meeting travellers from around the world
  • Have a passion for Bergen — its history, culture, and everyday life
  • Live in Bergen and know Norway well
  • Are a strong storyteller and communicator
  • Are reliable, adaptable, and comfortable working independently
  • Can commit to consistent work from May to October, with optional shifts in the low season
  • Want to be part of a small, supportive guide community

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engaging, accurate and enjoyable walking tours in Bergen and surrounding areas
  • Deliver stories, historical information and local insights in a clear and personable way
  • Provide a warm welcome to guests and ensure they feel comfortable and included
  • Manage groups of various sizes while maintaining safety and good flow
  • Represent I Love Bergen professionally during all tours and interactions
  • Arrive punctually at tour start points and follow agreed tour timings
  • Adapt tours to weather, group needs and unexpected changes
  • Prepare for tours by reviewing route notes, updates or internal resources
  • Use our booking systems, WhatsApp group and internal communication channels as required
  • Provide occasional feedback on routes, guest trends or improvements
  • (Optional) Contribute to blog posts, social media or creative content
  • (Optional) Assist with specialised tours such as food tours, hiking routes, WWII tours or day trips

Types of Tours You’ll Lead

  • Public walking tours
  • Private tours for cruise ships, tour companies, and travel agencies
  • Food tours
  • Crime-themed tours
  • Hiking tours
  • Bus tours and day trips (Hardanger, Flåm)
  • World War II tours

Available throughout the summer season (May-October)

Complete flexibility in choosing which tours you accept

We are primarily hiring for the summer season, with opportunities to work over winter.

Working With Us

Flexible hours to suit studies, part-time work, or other commitments

Access to our cosy office in Bryggen for work, breaks, or lunch

Regular meet‑ups, information sessions, and social activities

Active WhatsApp group for updates and Bergen info

Access to our extensive online guide resources

We offer a free training course from late January to early May. This includes:

  • A mix of online learning and in‑person sessions
  • Walking tours, lectures, museum visits, and guided practice
  • Training on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
  • Free access to join all our tours to learn from experienced guides

Completion of the course gives you authorisation from Norges Guideforbund (Norway’s Guide Association).

I Love Bergen is a genuinely local, independent guiding company run by a close-knit team who call Bergen home year-round.

We specialise in small-group and private tours that go beyond standard sightseeing. Whether you’re wandering through the historic wharfs of Bryggen, exploring hidden neighbourhoods, discovering scenic hikes, or diving into Bergen’s rich cultural heritage, our aim is always to deliver stories, local insights, and “living city” experiences that truly show what makes Bergen special.

All of our tours are led by authorised guides who not only know the city’s history, architecture and traditions — but also live here, breathe Bergen life, and love sharing it.

We cater to a wide variety of travellers — solo adventurers, groups, cruise‑ship visitors, families, history buffs, food lovers, nature seekers and curious wanderers. We offer both public walking tours in several languages and fully customisable private tours (city walks, hikes, food & culture tours, themed experiences such as WWII history).

At the heart of everything we do is a deep passion for Bergen. We want our guests to leave our tours not just having seen the sights — but feeling like they’ve met the real city: its people, its stories, its soul.

Welcome to Bergen with locals. Welcome to I Love Bergen.
