Job summary

NTNU in Trondheim seeks a highly motivated PhD candidate for a 3-year full-time position in the Norwegian Centre on AI for Decisions (AID). The project focuses on trustworthy AI for hydropower scheduling, combining stochastic optimization with AI-based learning, supervised by leading professors in the EMESP group.

The position aims to advance AI-enabled decision support in energy systems, with emphasis on uncertainty, generalization, and human interpretability, hosted in the Department of

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical power engineering, computer science, control engineering, chemistry, managerial economics with strong quantitative skills, or physics/mathematics with OR.
  • Average grade on Master studies equal to B or better on NTNU scale; if no letter grades, evidence of strong academic foundation.
  • Admission to the Faculty's Doctoral Programme is required or obtainable.
  • Experience with optimization modelling and numerical optimization tools is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out high-quality research within the framework described above.
  • Participate in activities of the EMESP research group.
  • Complete academic training with coursework totaling at least 30 ECTS.
  • Contribute to publications in journals and to science dissemination.
  • Engage in international activities such as conferences and research stays.
