Job description

Newsletter Editor – MoneySalary £50,000 to £60,000 (depending on experience) Permanent Hybrid – London/Folkestone

Overview

The Newsletter Editor is accountable for the creation and delivery of Saga Money’s content strategy, playing a crucial part in building Saga’s authority and trust as a provider of financial services. This role is responsible for the strategic planning, execution and growth of the Saga Money Newsletter and associated Money News content. The position requires operating at all levels, from high‑level strategic planning to detailed editorial oversight and hands‑on delivery, demanding a deep understanding of both the audience and the competitive landscape to improve content and its performance. The role will work cross‑functionally to define and implement a content roadmap that improves reach, customer engagement and commercial performance, and ensures adherence to regulatory standards, including the FCA Consumer Duty. We work in a hybrid way at Saga, both at home and in the office; this role requires working from our London office a minimum of 2‑3 times a week to collaborate and share success as a business.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designing and executing a content strategy that supports the overall business strategy and works in harmony with the commercial goals of Saga Money and Saga Publishing.
  • Oversee the content creation process end‑to‑end, from commissioning a network of freelance financial journalists to briefing them on key considerations, to hands‑on editing, optimisation and checking of content to ensure it is of high quality.
  • Work to improve acquisition and drive growth, performance and commercial outcomes for the Money Newsletter.
  • Translate performance and search data into actionable insights to continuously refine and inform future content strategy, SEO opportunities, and A/B testing decisions.
  • Lead the strategic selection and prioritisation of content, aligning with business priorities, newsletter strategy, and actionable insights from SEO data, website analytics, and email performance.
  • Act as the final editorial authority on all content, giving writers feedback and editing content to ensure the highest standards of accuracy, brand voice and quality, including on complex financial topics.
  • Optimise all content for performance and brand, to enhance SEO, user engagement and commercial outcomes.
  • Champion the FCA’s Consumer Duty principles throughout the entire content lifecycle, ensuring all output meets regulatory requirements and is accurate, clear, and designed to achieve good customer outcomes.
  • Proactively identify and act upon reactive, topical content opportunities by continuously monitoring the financial news agenda.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from Money and Publishing so that content is disseminated on all relevant channels to support business strategy and commercial goals.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with internal and external partners to ensure that work is published on schedule – identifying any blockers and proactively seeking resolution.
  • Act as a source of expertise and best practice for SEO and content for Saga Publishing and Money teams as required.
  • Embed a culture of high performance and continuous improvement in response to data‑led insights and organisational and audience needs.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with industry best practices, technology trends and competitor landscape.
  • Budget responsibility for Newsletter and Money News content.
Ideal Candidate
  • Exceptional editorial skills – including a meticulous eye for detail and the ability to handle complex financial and tax‑related topics with complete accuracy.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements for content in a regulated business.
  • Proven experience developing and executing content strategy.
  • Experience of working in a matrix working environment where facilitation and networking skills are core to resolving complex cross‑departmental problems.
  • Expert SEO knowledge.
  • Experience of analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics and using them to inform content decisions.
  • Proven experience of designing data‑informed content strategies.
  • Experience with using workflow systems such as Airtable and supporting others in their use, and in optimising their use to support planning, tracking and operational efficiencies.
  • Experience with content management systems such as Sitecore.
  • Excellent communication – strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and to build positive working relationships at all levels across functions and teams, facilitating effective collaboration and resolution.
  • Strategic and analytical skills – capable of analysing and interpreting complex qualitative and quantitative data, translating this into actionable insights and strategic adjustments.
  • Project management – ability to manage and deliver projects on time, to high standards.
  • Highly organised and adaptable – ability to solve problems, adapt to changes in priorities, and to balance multiple projects and tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong presentation skills and enthusiasm for sharing insights with others, and to incorporate these insights into effective strategic decision‑making.
  • Ability to operate at strategic as well as implementation level.
  • Understanding of an over‑50s audience and the content that resonates with them.
  • Saga Values: Make it Happen, Do the Right Thing, Customer First, Excellence Every Day, Our People Make Us Special.
Benefits
