Job Overview
The Managing Director will oversee all operational, financial, and strategic activities of Samskip Norway. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can drive business growth, strengthen operational performance, enhance driver engagement, and ensure the company meets the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute business strategies to achieve company goals and expand the organization’s footprint.
- Explore opportunities for diversifying the business portfolio and enhancing service offerings.
- Lead strategic decision-making initiatives regarding end-to-end multimodal transport operations including coastal shipping, industry and project cargo, offshore shipments, reefer logistics, and integrated road-rail services to ensure reliable, efficient, and high-quality transport solutions across Norway and Europe.
Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, reliability, and continuity across all transport activities.
- Identify and implement operational improvements in close cooperation with headquarters to increase productivity and streamline workflows.
- Monitor key performance metrics and ensure service delivery meets internal and customer expectations.
- Drive sales management and lead sales efforts to expand market presence and accelerate company development.
Financial Oversight
- Manage budgets, forecasting, and financial performance to ensure operational profitability.
- Conduct variance analyses comparing results against budget, previous periods, and historical data; take corrective action where required.
- Oversee cost control, resource allocation, and financial governance.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing management team and operational workforce.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support teams in removing structural bottlenecks and resolving operational challenges.
Relations
- Maintain strong, trust-based relationships with company stakeholders.
- Oversee recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives to maintain a stable workforce.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure adherence to national and international transport laws, safety guidelines, and industry regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across the organization.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Transport Management, or related field.
- Master’s degree is considered an advantage.
Experience
- At least 10 years of experience in logistics, transport, or a related industry.
- Minimum of 5 years in a senior management role with full P&L responsibility.
Skills
- Strong leadership and strategic planning capabilities.
- Solid financial acumen with experience in budgeting and performance management.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead large operational teams within a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in English and Norwegian is required.
