The City of Barrie is seeking a Casual Part-time Fitness Attendant to join our Recreation and Culture Services team. You will provide customer service at our Fitness Centres, overseeing gym patrons and ensuring proper use of fitness equipment. The ideal candidate will have a Secondary School Diploma and relevant fitness certifications, including First Aid and CPR.

Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.
Under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Active Living Programmer, and reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Fitness Attendant (PT) position acts as the first point of contact for customers of the City of Barrie’s Fitness Centres. Specifically, this position provides front-line customer service at one of the City’s Fitness Centres. Additionally, this position oversees the activities of gym patrons to ensure proper and safe use of fitness machines, free weights and cardio equipment. Overall, this position plays an integral role in the operation of the City’s Fitness Centres to enable the City of Barrie to deliver fitness services that allow residents to live healthy and active lives.

The normal hours of work are up to and including 24 hours per week with a varying schedule to support business demand.
