Job summary

Ramboll Group in Oslo seeks a Chief Specialist Engineer to lead electrical system design and grid integration for utility-scale power projects. You will manage end-to-end design, from feasibility to construction, and drive optimized solutions across international teams.

You will engage with TSOs/DSOs, develop cutting-edge designs, and guide technical discussions to meet grid requirements for electrification, offshore wind, data centers and large energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Strong OEM experience and hands-on modelling.
  • Expertise with grid-forming equipment and FACTS.
  • Experience with PowerFactory and PSCAD modelling.
  • Experience with grid compliance for utility-scale installs.
  • Minimum five years leading large electrical packages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical system design from feasibility through construction.
  • Develop optimized designs to connect assets to the grid.
  • Facilitate technical dialogue with TSOs and DSOs.
  • Oversee engineering for large power installs, including tendering and QA.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and client teams.
  • Manage interactions with the client's senior technical leadership.
  • Develop scalable technical concepts across projects and clients.
  • Engage in industry working groups and stay current on standards.

Chief Specialist Engineer - Electrical system design and grid integration

Are you experienced in electrical system design for large-scale power transmission installations? Have you led large and complex electrical packages? Do you have hands‑on experience with grid compliance and grid integration for utility‑scale installations?

Your new role

As our new Project Director / Senior Chief Engineer, you will have end-to-end responsibility for leading the electrical system design of large-scale power transmission installations.

You will be part of our international Power Systems organisation and work across a broad range of projects connected to the green transition. This includes complex assignments within areas such as electrification, offshore wind, data centres and large-scale energy infrastructure.

Ramboll continues to invest in the global Power Systems market, with more than 300 specialists working on Power Systems projects globally and a strong track record across Northern Europe, Central Europe and North America.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead electrical system design from feasibility and FEED through design, execution and construction.
  • Lead the development of cutting‑edge and optimized technical designs to connect utility‑scale assets to the grid
  • lead and facilitate the technical dialogue on TSO and DSO level to pro‑actively identify and address requirements through design
  • Lead oversight engineering (OE) for large power installations, including employers requirements, tender facilitation, evaluation, contractor oversight, design review, quality assurance, issue handling, etc.
  • Collaborate intensely with engineering, specialist and project management disciplines to ensure optimal outcomes for the client
  • Manage the dialogue and interaction with the client’s senior technical leadership
  • Cross project / client development of scalable technical concepts, solutions
  • Engage actively in relevant industry working groups, technical forums and professional networks to contribute to industry development and stay close to emerging standards, practices and market trends.

About you

For this role, we are looking for:

  • Strong OEM experience, combined with hands‑on modelling experience.
  • Deep expertise with electrical grid‑forming equipment and FACTS, such as (e-)STATCOMs and frequency converters.
  • Experience with electrical system design and modelling, including PowerFactory and PSCAD.
  • Hands‑on experience with grid compliance and grid integration processes for utility‑scale installations, such as BESS, renewables and data centres.
  • Excellent managerial skills and at least five years of experience leading large and complex electrical packages.
  • Strong communication and client management skills.
