Job summary

Oman OnlineConnect is seeking a Preservation Architect in Svalbard to lead preservation and restoration of historic buildings in a remote Arctic setting. You will apply conservation principles, assess structures, and source appropriate materials while coordinating with local contractors.

The role requires a master's or bachelor's in architecture with specialization in conservation and at least five years of relevant experience, plus strong communication to work with authorities and community

Qualifications

• Degree in Architecture with a specialization in architectural conservation.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Preservation Architect on historical buildings.
• Knowledge of international standards for architectural conservation and preservation.
• Familiarity with local building materials and regulations in Svalbard.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough assessments of historical structures to determine necessary repairs or restoration work.
• Develop detailed preservation plans and strategies, taking into account the unique challenges of working in a remote Arctic environment.
• Collaborate with local contractors and craftsmen to ensure adherence to conservation principles and techniques.
• Source appropriate materials for restoration work, considering availability, sustainability, and historical accuracy.
• Monitor the progress of restoration projects to ensure quality and timely completion.
• Document all preservation work for future reference and research purposes
