Job description

Responsibilities
  • Plan all water, hygiene and sanitation (WatSan) activities in collaboration with the project coordinator and medical team leader.
  • Develop and review the annual WatSan budget, identify needs and respond to project and population requirements.
  • Monitor day‑to‑day implementation of WatSan activities, ensuring compliance with MSF standards, protocols and procedures.
  • Design, implement and manage all WatSan interventions, including water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, hygiene practices and vector control systems.
  • Conduct routine WatSan assessments with medical teams to identify water, hygiene and sanitation needs at the project level and make recommendations for public health activities.
  • Ensure contributions to emergency preparedness and response strategies, in collaboration with medical and logistical teams.
  • Ensure availability, proper supply and appropriate technical specifications of required materials and equipment through planning, organising and overseeing the inventory of WatSan stock.
  • Plan and implement HR processes for the WatSan team in collaboration with the HR coordinator.
  • Provide technical support to the medical team in identifying risk factors (e.g., behavioral practices, environmental sources of infection, transmission routes) and offer solutions that contribute to infection control.
  • Lead the integration of WatSan activities in medical intervention proposals and work plans.
  • Ensure proper collection, monitoring and analysis of WatSan‑specific data.
  • Contribute to reporting and decision‑making around public health and multidisciplinary data.
Qualifications
  • At least two years of hands‑on experience in water, hygiene, vector control or sanitation projects in emergency or development contexts.
  • Experience in training, coaching and supervising staff.
  • Good command of at least two languages: English and French/Arabic/French (minimum B2).
  • Ability to cope with stress and organise and prioritise workload in high‑intensity settings.
  • Willingness to work in an unstable and insecure environment.
  • Availability for at least six months.
  • Experience or familiarity with healthcare water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, hygiene and vector control systems.
  • A degree in public health, environmental engineering or a related field is desirable but not required.
  • Diverse experiences across different contexts and cultures are highly desirable.
  • Experience working in epidemic/outbreak settings (e.g., cholera, viral haemorrhagic fever, Ebola, hepatitis, diphtheria).
