Job summary

Seequent seeks a Team Lead, Software Engineering to lead a team of engineers and collaborate with product, design and research leads to deliver complex software systems end-to-end.

You will guide architecture, drive performance, manage projects, and ensure quality with CI/CD and Agile practices, while mentoring staff and aligning with company goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years in Software Engineering roles, including Senior
  • 1+ year leading a team
  • Proficient in Go, Python or TypeScript/Node.js
  • Experience building SPAs with React, Angular or Vue.js
  • Cloud architecture and scalable, reliable apps
  • Relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
  • Active code reviews and high code quality standards
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Strong communication of complex technical concepts
  • Agile/Scrum and CI/CD familiarity

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and architectural guidance for complex software applications, components and modules while assessing and evaluating team recommendations.
  • Ensure the team uses appropriate modelling techniques in line with agreed software design standards, guidelines, patterns and methodologies.
  • Accountable for the overall delivery of multiple design views to address stakeholder concerns and meet both functional and non‑functional requirements, including security.
  • Provide leadership to identify, evaluate and recommend design alternatives and trade‑offs.
  • Address any concerns in model, and simulate or prototype proposed software behaviours to secure stakeholder approval and facilitate effective software construction.
  • Review, verify and enhance own designs against specifications and lead reviews of others’ designs.
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of current processes, products and programs by applying research insights and integrating emerging technologies from the team.
  • Provide operational direction, support and guidance to the team.
  • Allocate tasks or project work, in line with team objectives and individual capabilities.
  • Assess quality and performance against established criteria in line with set policies, practices and procedures to make learning recommendations or elevate concerns.
  • Coach colleagues in developing target skills and capabilities in line with team and personal goals.
  • Provide input for performance discussions regarding direct reports, including promotions and other employment decisions.
  • Facilitate effective working relationships between team members.
  • Participate in bi‑annual performance reviews.
  • Take full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of medium‑scale projects.
  • Provide effective leadership to the project team, adopting suitable project management methods and tools.
  • Manage change control processes and assess risks, ensuring projects align with governance frameworks and business priorities.
  • Communicate regularly with cross‑functional stakeholders, ensuring project deliverables meet agreed standards, budgets and time lines.
  • Ensure project and product quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure.
  • Proactively monitor performance metrics, implementing preventive and corrective actions as needed.

Role

A Team Lead, Software Engineering leads a team of technical professionals, collaborating closely with the product manager, designer and research lead to deliver exceptional customer experiences. The position is responsible for the end‑to‑end design, development and delivery of complex software systems, while also providing leadership in performance and project management. This position requires deep senior technical expertise combined with people and project leadership capabilities to drive innovation and operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in modern backend languages such as Go, Python or TypeScript/Node.js.
  • Experience building modern Single Page Applications (SPAs) with frameworks like React, Angular or Vue.js.
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture and best practices for building and deploying scalable and reliable applications.
  • Experience with relational and non‑relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Expected to actively participate in code reviews and set a high bar for code quality across all technologies.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in complex applications.
  • Strong ability to articulate complex technical concepts to the team and other stakeholders.
  • Solid experience in an Agile/Scrum environment and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

Direct Reports

The Team Lead, Software Engineering is responsible for managing a team of approximately 3 to 10 direct reports. This includes positions from Associate to Senior Software Engineers, as well as Software Testers and/or Application Specialists.
