Job description

About Us: At Booking.com, data drives our decisions. Technology is at our core. And innovation is everywhere. But our company is more than datasets, lines of code or A/B tests. We’re the thrill of the first night in a new place. The excitement of the next morning. The friends you encounter. The journeys you take. The sights you see. And the memories you make. Through our products, partners and people, we make it easier for everyone to experience the world.

The Revenue, Marketing and Treasury Accounting team plays a critical role in safeguarding the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of Booking.com’s financial records across several high-impact accounting streams. The team operates at the intersection of accounting, business partnership, controls, and process improvement, helping ensure that complex end-to-end processes are translated into robust financial reporting outcomes.

This role is intended to provide dedicated ownership over Marketing expense accounting while enabling continued progress on key initiatives.

Role Overview

As a Senior Tax Accountant and Compliance Specialist, you'll be right at the center of the action, owning compliance filings, driving process improvements, and helping launch new business initiatives before they ever reach the traveler. This role sits within our Global Accounting organization, working out of our Amsterdam headquarters as part of a vibrant, high-energy finance team.

You won't just be filing returns - you'll be at the heart of some of Booking.com's most talked-about tax programs. Think TaxIT, our globe-spanning engine for calculating, withholding, and remitting traveler taxes from the US to France; ACE, the ambitious tax tech overhaul rebuilding how Booking does compliance, e-invoicing, and reporting from the ground up; and the VAT puzzles behind the products millions of travelers use every day, like Flights, SmartFlex, and PYOC. And that's before you get to the bigger stage: helping steer Booking through Brazil's landmark tax reform, the EU's VAT-in-the-Digital-Age (ViDA) overhaul, Saudi Arabia's B2C invoicing, and the EU Safe Harbour initiative safeguarding hundreds of millions in tax exposure. If you want a front-row seat to one of the world's most complex and fastest-changing tax landscapes, this is it.

We're looking for someone with accounting experience, plus a strong understanding of adjacent Finance areas like US GAAP, Statutory Reporting, Financial Systems, and Risk & Controls. You'll manage Booking's global VAT compliance processes hand-in-hand with our Centre of Excellence in India, EY, and our Tax team, and you'll play a direct role in bringing new VAT and indirect tax projects to life. Building a strong internal network and trusted relationships with our Tax stakeholders is key to thriving here, and broad S/4HANA VAT experience plus a genuine affinity for big-data environments will set you up to make an immediate impact.

A Day in the Life on the ITX Accounting Team

Some days you're deep in a BlackLine reconciliation, chasing down a rounding difference before month-end close. Other days you're on a call with the ACE core team debating how Tax Master Data should flow into the new Central Tax Service, or huddled with Tax and Fintech colleagues untangling how VAT should apply to a brand-new SmartFlex fee. You might spend a morning reviewing a TaxIT compliance report for Canada, and the afternoon reading up on Brazil's CBS/IBS reform to figure out what it means for our commission invoicing. It's a small, tight-knit team that leans on each other, works directly with Tax, EY, and our India Centre of Excellence, and genuinely enjoys the mix of BAU rigor and project-driven problem solving. If you like variety, ownership, and being close to where the business is actually moving, you'll feel at home.

Key Job Responsibilities And Duties

  • Post adjusting entries during month-end close and help push forward the automation agenda so fewer of them are manual.
  • Reconcile Indirect Tax accounts during month-end close, keeping our books audit-ready.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors (EY, Avalara, Tripzz, Tax, and more) to keep compliance airtight.
  • Roll up your sleeves on daily process improvements, spotting friction and fixing it.
  • Stand up new indirect tax compliance processes as Booking registers in new jurisdictions and launches new products.
  • Get hands-on exposure to flagship programs like TaxIT, ACE, and VAT on Commission, plus emerging frontiers such as Brazil's tax reform, ViDA, and Saudi VAT on TTV.
