Job summary

Elity Global in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join an established algorithmic trading firm. You will build high-performance, low-latency systems where software directly influences trading outcomes.

You’ll collaborate with traders, quants and researchers, own features end-to-end, and implement modern Java (Java 21) with JVM optimisations, Docker and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Java software engineering experience.
• Experience developing software within an algorithmic trading or electronic trading environment is required.
• Strong expertise in modern Java, Java 17/21, with concurrency frameworks.
• Python experience for tooling, scripting or automation.
• Comfortable working in Linux environments.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or similar container platforms.
• Strong debugging, analytical and performance optimisation skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with traders, quants and researchers.
• Comfortable taking ownership and delivering high-quality software with minimal supervision.

We are searching for a Senior Java Software Engineer to join an established, top-tier algorithmic trading firm in Amsterdam. This is a role for an engineer who thrives in fast-paced trading environments, building high-performance, business-critical systems where software directly impacts trading performance and commercial outcomes.

You’ll work alongside traders, quantitative researchers and fellow software engineers, designing and building the technology that powers electronic trading across global financial markets.

What you’ll be working on

Depending on the team, your work may include:

• Building and enhancing electronic trading systems and execution services
• Developing real-time trading applications used by traders and quantitative researchers
• Designing market data, pricing, order management and execution components
• Optimising latency-sensitive services and distributed trading infrastructure
• Building simulation, backtesting and market replay platforms
• Developing risk management, position monitoring and exposure systems
• Automating trade lifecycle and post-trade workflows
• Building internal developer tooling that improves testing, deployment and operational efficiency

Key responsibilities

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of professional Java software engineering experience
• Previous experience developing software within an algorithmic trading firm, proprietary trading firm, market maker, hedge fund, exchange or electronic trading environment is required
• Strong expertise in modern Java, ideally Java 17 or Java 21, with experience building production systems using the latest language features and concurrency frameworks
• Python experience for tooling, scripting or automation
• Comfortable working in Linux environments
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or similar container platforms
• Strong debugging, analytical and performance optimisation skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with traders, quantitative researchers and technical stakeholders
• Comfortable taking ownership and delivering high-quality software with minimal supervision
