Job summary

Vanderlande Industries B.V. is seeking a Principal Design Safety Expert to lead machine safety across our material handling systems.

The role requires deep expertise in regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement to keep products safe and compliant. You will develop training, drive safety improvements, and participate in European standardization activities, while collaborating with R&D, sales and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level education in electro-mechanical or controls engineering.
• Advanced machine safety certifications (CECE/CMSE/CEFS) or equivalent.
• 5+ years supporting HSE in fast-paced multi-site environments.
• Experience with automated material handling systems and the Machine Directive 2006/42/EC.
• Ability to translate complex safety topics into actionable guidance.

Responsibilities

• Track upcoming legislation and machine safety standards.
• Assess applicability and impact for Vanderlande.
• Develop and maintain a safety dashboard.
• Interpret new legislation and propose high-level actions.
• Draft tools and documentation; support domain experts.
• Develop and provide machine safety trainings for R&D, sales, engineers.
• Run Product Deficiency Risk Assessments and root cause analyses.
• Represent Vanderlande in European Standardization Committees.
