Your position

As a Senior Data Scientist, you develop end-to-end data science and AI solutions that contribute to Vattenfall's Business to Consumer ambitions, supporting both sustainable customer solutions and business value.

The Data & Analytics team develops data-driven solutions for marketing & sales, customer journeys, service and digitization, proposition development and sustainability advice to our customers.

Solving complex business challenges using data, machine learning and emerging AI technologies is at the core of your work. You take ownership from the first idea and problem definition through modelling, evaluation and implementation. Depending on the challenge, you determine whether classical machine learning, Generative AI or a combination provides the most suitable solution.

In doing so, you look beyond model performance alone. You consider robustness, cost, latency and risk and define clear evaluation criteria to determine whether a solution is ready to move from experiment to production. Together with engineering colleagues, you ensure solutions can be implemented, monitored and continuously improved.

Throughout this data product life cycle, you collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to make sure solutions address real business needs and are successfully adopted.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will:

• Develop data science and AI solutions from problem framing and modelling through evaluation, deployment and continuous improvement.


• Solve complex business challenges using diverse internal and external datasets on our Analytics Platform.


• Build robust and explainable solutions that can be used in customer channels and internal systems.


• Apply sound software engineering practices, including modular design, testing, code reviews and reproducible development.


• Work with Data & ML Engineers on production readiness, monitoring and continuous improvement of AI and machine-learning solutions.


• Share your expertise and mentor less experienced Data Science colleagues.

Where will you work?

The Vattenfall B2C Data & Analytics department develops data-driven solutions for our customers and customer processes. We do this through machine learning models, strategic analysis, reporting and self-service data solutions.

The department works across three business domain teams, bringing data experts and business experts together to create valuable solutions. Each domain team consists of an Analytics Translator, Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists and is supported by Data & ML Engineers from IT.

We value the joint development of ways of working and best practices. You will actively contribute your experience through our Data Science Community of Practice and shared data and AI standards.

Qualifications

Your profile

You combine strong technical Data Science expertise with the ability to turn complex business questions into solutions that work in practice. You are solution-oriented and critical, take ownership and enjoy collaborating with colleagues from different disciplines.

Just as importantly, you can explain complex models and AI solutions clearly and accessibly. You are comfortable challenging existing approaches when you see opportunities to improve them and can provide technical direction when developing more complex solutions.

Also, you recognize yourself in the following:

• An academic degree with a strong quantitative component, such as Mathematics, Physics, Econometrics or a comparable field.


• Extensive professional experience as a Data Scientist or in a comparable role, giving you the seniority to take technical ownership and guide others.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus.


• Experience working in an agile environment.

Your technical experience includes:

• Writing production-quality Python and applying modular software-design principles.


• Extensive knowledge of machine-learning techniques, probability and statistics, and the ability to apply them to real-world problems.


• Working with large and complex datasets and understanding distributed computing and query optimisation.


• Hands-on experience with Generative AI, including LLM APIs, prompting, structured outputs and agent or tool-based workflows.


• The ability to assess AI solutions critically in terms of suitability, quality, safety and business value rather than selecting a technology for its own sake.


• Experience with software-development and DevOps practices such as Git, CI/CD, code reviews and automated testing.


• Practical knowledge of MLOps and/or LLMOps, including reproducibility, versioning and monitoring of production AI and machine-learning solutions.

Additional Information

Our offer

The height of your salary is based on your education and relevant work experience. The salary for this position ranges from €5,700 to €7,100 gross per month, excluding holiday allowance, based on 38 hours per week.

In addition to your salary, we offer:

• 8% holiday allowance, a 4.5% end-of-year payment and profit sharing of up to 3.5% of your annual salary based on the results of Vattenfall Netherlands (RDR).


• An NS Business Card for commuting or a travel allowance of €0.23 per kilometer, up to 50 kilometers one way, plus a home-working allowance of €3.05.


• 20 statutory vacation days and 5 additional vacation days as part of My Budget My Choice.


• 2 additional non-statutory days as compensation for overtime from scale 9, as part of My Budget My Choice.


• 3.5 vitality days and 13 ADV days when working a 40-hour week on a 38-hour contract.


• My Budget My Choice, allowing you to buy or sell additional vacation days, purchase a bicycle or have the budget paid out monthly.


• An ABP pension, with Vattenfall contributing 70% and you contributing 30%.


• A collective health-insurance discount with Zilveren Kruis Achmea.


• 4 hours of leave to perform volunteer work through the Vattenfall Foundation.
