Catawiki, Amsterdam-based, seeks a Senior Manager to lead Data Engineering and Machine Learning, modernising production platforms, creating a feature store, and boosting observability and cost controls.

You’ll guide a diverse team across Amsterdam and Lisbon, aligning data capabilities with product goals and business needs. This hybrid role in Amsterdam requires two days on-site weekly.

Qualifications

• Deep experience designing, building and operating data-intensive systems.
• Experience leading engineers or ML specialists and coaching growth.
• Architecture for data platforms, distributed systems and production infrastructure.
• Deployment, monitoring and operation of machine learning systems in production.
• Connect technical work to business goals, set priorities and assess outcomes.
• Cloud platforms familiarity, especially GCP; AWS experience also relevant.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the team: Set direction, coach experienced specialists and create clear ownership across Data Engineering and Machine Learning.
• Build dependable data foundations: Improve pipelines, integrations and infrastructure for analysis, reporting and ML.
• Strengthen production ML: Improve deployment, monitoring and operational follow-through for production models.
• Advance marketplace models: Improve recommendation, cancellation and bidder-risk use cases, linking performance to product outcomes.
• Set direction and priorities: Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Analytics and business partners on high-value problems and balance delivery, reliability and health.
• Shape the technology strategy: Report to the SVP Engineering; join Engineering Management to influence Technology department direction.
