Job summary

Vattenfall GmbH in Amsterdam is seeking a Cloud Architect to design and govern enterprise cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure, shaping standards and the architecture of our digital backbone.

You will lead migrations of business-critical apps to Azure, define landing zones and governance, and work with security, SAP, Kafka and partners to deliver scalable, secure solutions. The role offers hybrid work and impact on a cleaner energy future.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and governing enterprise-grade cloud platforms and infrastructure solutions in Microsoft Azure.
• Defining architecture standards, reference architectures and best practices for cloud adoption.
• Supporting the migration of business-critical applications to Azure using modern architectural principles.
• Designing and implementing Azure Landing Zones, management group structures and policy-based governance.
• Collaborating with application teams, security specialists and external partners to ensure scalable and secure solutions.
• Driving cloud security initiatives based on Zero Trust principles and Microsoft security frameworks.

Your role

As Cloud Architect at Vattenfall, you will guide the design and evolution of cloud and infrastructure solutions, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. You will help shape enterprise‑wide cloud standards, governance frameworks and architecture principles while supporting both cloud‑native development and the migration of existing applications.

Qualifications

Who are you?

You are an experienced cloud professional who enjoys collaborating across teams and transforming complex technical challenges into practical and sustainable solutions. You combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills and can explain cloud concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Next to this we believe you bring:

• At least 7 years of experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure solutions
• Extensive hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure
• A curious mindset and enthusiasm for exploring new technologies and innovative solutions
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups

Cloud Security Expertise

• Strong understanding of Azure networking, identity management and cloud security
• Experience guiding enterprise‑scale application migrations to Azure
• Experience implementing Azure Security Baselines and secure‑by‑design architectures
• Experience applying Zero Trust Architecture principles
• Practical knowledge of Entra ID, Azure RBAC, Privileged Identity Management (PIM) and Conditional Access
• Understanding of cloud compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001/27002, GDPR and the EU AI Act

Frameworks & Standards

• Experience working with Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF)
• Solid knowledge of Azure governance, management groups, policies and landing zones
• Knowledge of Azure Well‑Architected Framework (WAF), especially Security and Operational Excellence
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark (MCSB) and Microsoft Defender for Cloud
