Job summary

Elsevier in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Scientific Editor for One Earth to shape climate content and oversee peer review. You will engage authors and reviewers, curate content, and contribute to editorial strategy across sustainability topics.

You will hold a PhD and bring editorial interest with strong communication and collaboration across diverse teams in an international setting. A hybrid work model is offered, with opportunities to engage globally.

Qualifications

• A PhD, or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Previous editorial experience is advantageous but not required.
• Strong interest in sustainability research and climate-related topics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify, recruit, and develop high-impact climate content across mitigation, adaptation, and related sustainability research.
• Evaluate manuscripts and manage the peer review process for rigor and fairness.
• Select and collaborate with expert reviewers.
• Engage with authors to provide guidance and an excellent author experience.
• Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives, and other front-matter content.
• Ideate and plan thematic issues addressing pressing sustainability challenges.
• Contribute to editorial strategy and the journal’s positioning within Cell Press.
• Build relationships with the global scientific and sustainability community.
