Job summary

Nederlandse Spoorwegen is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to build and maintain the backend APIs powering the NS app and NS.nl, serving millions of users monthly. You’ll shape scalable services in a cloud-native environment and collaborate across six cross-functional teams.

You’ll lead technical initiatives, drive best practices like TDD and pair programming, mentor colleagues, and help migrate to AWS-based microservices.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building and operating backend applications in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of Java or Kotlin and modern backend frameworks.
• Experience with cloud-based microservices and APIs in containers/serverless environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop structured, maintainable backend code and reduce technical debt.
• Migrate services toward cloud-native target architecture and improve resilience.
• Collaborate with frontend teams to enable features and performance.
